Language Weekends![]() A fun way for beginners to learn Polish and experience Krakow!
Polish is not an easy language to learn but it is great fun to learn in a group and in real life situations. Our three day Krakow Language weekends will teach you basic Polish for beginners and are designed so that you'll get out and about having fun rather than spend time in a classroom. We like to describe this course as 'survival Polish with a twist' - how to say please and thank you, understand numbers, order a beer and decipher a menu. The twist is how we teach you.... The three day weekend includes approximately 8 hours of tuition with a teacher and some group activities designed to help you practice your Polish in practical situations. Depending on time or year and availibility your hotel will be the D.S. Bydgoska Summer Hotel, Hotel Leopolis or accommodation in a SODISPAR apartment. D.S. Bydgoska is a summer hotel that is located only minutes away from the language school by foot and just 4 stops by tram to the historic centre of Krakow. Your room will be large and clean with a private ensuite bathroom, refrigerator and kitchenette access for those who wish to do their own shopping cooking. Facilities include a post office, a unisex hair salon, a television room, a computer room with free internet access and a restaurant on the premises. The restaurant, "Eden" has complete dining and bar facilities, an outdoor beer garden and very reasonably priced and high quality Polish and Continental cuisine. Breakfast is provided each day in the restaurant. Hotel Leopolis is also near both the school and minutes from the centre of Krakow. Comfortable rooms include satellite TV, telephone, free internet access, radio with CD, mini-bar and privat ensuite bathrooms. Onsite facilities include billiards and a small exercise gym. Breakfast is also provided in an onsite restaurant serving splendid Polish and Italian cuisine. SODISPAR apartments are self contained apartment units with en suite bathrooms, kitchen facilities and satellite tv. Apartments are located in the centre of Krakow with some in the old town centre. After arrival on Thursday you will meet your fellow 'classmates' and spend two hours getting to grips with pronunciation of multiple zzz's and www's, basic grammatical rules and key phrases. In the evening you'll be taken to a local restaurant for a delicious polish meal with wine. On the Friday and Saturday you will spend the morning (approx three hours each day) enjoying a series of increasingly involved, and increasingly silly, tasks. We'll start you off gently with a walk around the old town learning the names of various objects, practicing ordering a coffee, perhaps asking directions from a kindly looking local. Armed with phrase books, maps and disposable cameras you'll be set tasks in small groups - some to be completed during 'lesson' time and some to complete as 'homework' on the Friday afternoon. You may find yourself on a scavenger hunt, taking pictures of your group clutching flowers in front of the dragon or testing your translation skills as your teacher takes you around the castle. After your Saturday morning Polish lesson, and having relinquished your groups disposable camera, you'll visit the UNESCO protected Wieliczka salt mines (with an English guide) and on your return will attend the 'prizegiving', where we'll be waiting with the developed photos and other evidence to reveal just how much (or little) you've learnt during your lessons. On Sunday, after a yummy breakfast, you have the morning at leisure before your transfer in time for your flight home.
